Southern Guild presents The Laying of Hands, Manyaku Mashilo’s first U.S. solo exhibition, exploring matrilineal knowledge, ritual, and memory through large-scale paintings. Drawing from Sepedi culture and her personal history, Mashilo depicts powerful female figures grounded in tradition and self-reinvention. Using clay, ink, and detailed linework, she creates a space of care, resistance, and possibility—honoring the past while envisioning new worlds built by collective strength.
