Aiza Ahmed’s New York solo debut, The Music Room, presents an immersive installation inspired by Satyajit Ray’s 1958 film Jalsaghar. Drawing on her diasporic identity, Ahmed combines painting, sculpture, and sound to explore cultural, personal, and political histories of the Indian subcontinent. Monumental works and cut-out figures reinterpret the film’s decaying feudal world, while a collaboration with Ria Modak evokes its classical Indian musical soundscape.
