The Navelgazer is an exhibition of new work by CARO that approaches capitalism's theft of time and leisure through the aesthetic of a beachscape. A lounge chair repaired with organza and twenty thousand hand-embroidered glass beads, a five-foot canopy of vermicelli beads and crystals, eighteen frayed flags of feathers and handmade lace—each work creates a startling dichotomy between the promise of relaxation and the sheer labor required to get there.
