Susan Te Kahurangi King: The Page Before Me

James Fuentes, Los Angeles Los Angeles · Hollywood
Exhibition on view: Aug 1, 2026 - Sep 12, 2026

The Page Before Me presents the first West Coast solo exhibition of New Zealand artist Susan Te Kahurangi King. Spanning drawings from the late 1950s to the present, the exhibition traces the evolution of her singular visual language, where cartoon figures, symbols, abstract forms, and imagined landscapes merge into intricate compositions that blur the boundaries of representation.

Susan Te Kahurangi King

Susan Te Kahurangi King (b. 1951, New Zealand) is a self-taught artist known for intricate, psychologically charged drawings that transform cartoon imagery into dense, surreal compositions. After ceasing to speak around age four, King developed drawing as a primary mode of expression. Her work spans decades and has been exhibited internationally, including at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami.
