An installation examining the experience of the first enslaved Afro-Dutch residents of New Amsterdam and the events leading to their emancipation, featuring video, historic documents, sculptural brick work, and large-scale prints on fabric that appropriate imagery from Dutch and European painters to represent Manuel de Gerrit de Reus and eight other enslaved people.
