Sedrick Chisom: The Revenants of Our Founding Furies presents paintings of nonlinear time in which American history — the Revolution, the Civil War, the Open Range — never ended but loops, overlaps, and acts upon itself simultaneously. Figures from different eras share the same plane; hallucinations, representations of representations, and forgotten events compound together. Solid ironclads meet running wet paint; embers from one painting intrude upon a stone wall from another; a man lies dead while horsemen above may be comrades, enemies, or spirits he is already joining. The artist's studio chair appears before a Civil War bay. Napoleon materializes on the artist's London balcony at 2AM. The world and the stage are pushed together until all of America appears as theater, all of history as loop.
