Patricia Piccinini: The Struggle that Sustains Us

Hosfelt Gallery San Francisco · SoMa
Exhibition on view: May 16, 2026 - Jul 2, 2026

Patricia Piccinini's fourth solo exhibition at Hosfelt Gallery presents a collection of hyper-realistic and disquietingly surreal creatures crafted from silicone, resin, human hair, and animal fur. Since her international prominence at the 2003 Venice Biennale, Piccinini has become renowned for creating troubling yet lyrical artworks that challenge viewers to reconsider what it means to be human in an era of rapid scientific and technological advancement. Through her practice centered on empathy, she envisions co-minglings of animal, plant, machine, and human forms, asking audiences to confront their reactions to otherness and difference. This exhibition features a diverse range of fleshy chimeric creatures, glassy sprites, animate machines, and works referencing art history and pop culture.
