Michael Werner Gallery, New York presents The Temple of Many Faces, an exhibition of self-portraits by A.R. Penck, a key post-war German artist. Self-portraiture was central to Penck’s work, allowing him to assert his identity while evading East German authorities. Influenced by Rembrandt, Picasso, and Warhol, he explored identity, alienation, and solitude. Created after his 1980 emigration, these works reflect his role as both artist and observer in an ever-changing world.
