In The Universe, Matt Mullican presents a single work composed of 9,519 collaged, hand-numbered sheets, about 6,700 installed in an immersive display. Using two copies of the Random House Encyclopedia, he cut and isolated every image and title, arranging them sequentially to expose systems of knowledge without text. The vast layout, along with boxed remnants and source volumes, turns information into a sprawling visual archive shaped by order and excess.
