Prince Street Gallery is pleased to present Patricia Bouley’s solo exhibition Tipping Point which showcases the versatility of collage through two distinct bodies of work. The first, intimate 2 1/2 x 3 inches collages, are meticulously constructed from tinted and precisely cut fragments of found photographs. These small-scale works (characterized by sharp angles and vibrant primary colors) delve into psychological realms, offering concentrated glimpses into internal landscapes.
In stark contrast, the exhibition also features larger, three-dimensional collages built from discarded cardboard. These works embrace the material’s inherent textures — corrugation, tape remnants, and honeycomb paper — through tearing, peeling, and layering, creating subtle wall reliefs and organic forms. Painted sections add depth and complexity, resulting in loose, abstract compositions that invite tactile and visual engagement. Displayed together, these contrasting groups highlight Bouley’s ability to navigate between precision and spontaneity, intimacy and expansiveness, and the psychological and the purely material.
