Margaret Maclean, to hell and back, installation view, induction gallery, Los Angeles, 2026
Margaret Maclean’s *to hell and back* presents new oil paintings of figures caught between waking and dreaming. Bodies bleed into atmosphere, faces stay half-formed, and limbs stretch and double back, while familiar art-historical groupings—the mother and child, the ascending figure—are quoted and then unraveled. In the most abstract works the figure dissolves into color, exploring flesh, instability, identity, and sensation.
