The Night Before: Poppies & Parachutes is Shaunté Gates’s inaugural solo exhibition at the gallery. Drawing from cinematic narrative and visual montage, the works assemble painted surfaces, photographs, and found materials into filmic compositions. Gates constructs scenes of urgency, aspiration, and tenderness, centering Black figures within expansive, staged environments that suggest movement, competition, and heroic resolve.
