Useless Machines examines the role of motorized technologies in 20th-century art, from industrial machines to weapons, domestic appliances, and hypothetical inventions. Works by Peter Fischli, John Giorno, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Sigmar Polke, Man Ray, and Jean Tinguely question technology as pragmatic tool; a dedicated gallery presents Pino Pascali's 1965–66 Armi sculptures — life-like war machines built from scrap materials; and Sara Cwynar's photographic installation considers how mechanical aesthetics have been absorbed into digital culture through retro nostalgia. The exhibition spans the late 1950s through the 1970s with contemporary counterpoints.
