RYAN LEE presents Waves of Knowing, featuring five Metcalf Chateau artists from Hawai'i — Abe, Akaji, Ochikubo, Sato, and Tsuchidana — many never shown on the mainland. Born to Japanese immigrant parents, they absorbed Abstract Expressionism in New York before returning home, fusing that language with Hawaiian landscape and diasporic identity. The title borrows from Karin Amimoto Ingersoll's concept of an embodied, ocean-based Hawaiian way of knowing.
