Where we become each other is an exhibition of new paintings by Adelisa Selimbašić exploring the rave as a site of useless beauty, aggressively non-productive, the opposite of labor, free from identity. The artist finds her models by watching them dance, at Basement, at Nowadays, across the fog machine at five in the morning. Drawing on Kant, Freud, and shamanic ritual, Selimbašić proposes that beauty is perverse without purpose—and that the dancing body is, absolutely, anything you want it to be.
