*White Fence, Los Cholos* documents Graciela Iturbide’s sustained engagement with a Chicanx community in Boyle Heights, beginning with a 1986 assignment for *A Day in the Life of America*. Her encounter with members of the White Fence community developed into a decades-long relationship. The photographs explore marginalization, identity, disability, family, and belonging, presenting an intimate portrait of resilience and collective life at the intersection of Mexican and American experience.

Graciela Iturbide (b. 1942, Mexico City) is a Mexican photographer known for poetic black-and-white images exploring identity, ritual, landscape, and everyday life. Working extensively across Mexico and beyond, she creates intimate photographs where documentary observation meets symbolism and ambiguity. Her celebrated work often examines Indigenous communities, cultural traditions, nature, and the complex relationship between life and death.
