Xaviera Simmons’s *Ocular (the principle of pleasure)*, her eighth solo show at David Castillo, debuts more than a dozen abstract paintings alongside four small photographic works. Swaths of pink, purple, seafoam, mustard and earth tones encircle and touch, laid down with brushes she often builds herself. Driven by desire and delight, the paintings pursue an ecstatic, hands-on romance with the medium and its history.
