The 500 Capp Street Foundation preserves the home and studio of conceptual artist David Ireland (1930-2009) in San Francisco's Mission District. Ireland bought the Victorian house in 1975 and transformed it into a living artwork, stripping walls to reveal history, sealing surfaces in polyurethane, and filling rooms with sculptures and found objects. Acquired by Carlie Wilmans in 2008 and restored by Jensen Architects, the house opened to the public in 2016. Today it offers tours, contemporary exhibitions, artist residencies, and programs exploring materiality, process, and place.
