Museum of Craft and Design

Founded in 2004 on Sutter Street and settled in the Dogpatch since 2013, the Museum of Craft and Design is a non-collecting museum devoted to craft, design and the making process. Its home in the historic American Industrial Center pairs bold, tightly focused exhibitions with a dedicated MakeArt workshop space, alongside family days and a mobile MakeArt van that carries projects out into the city. Shows range across furniture, ceramics, textiles, architecture and industrial design, built in collaboration with artists, designers and universities rather than drawn from a permanent collection.
