Motoko Ishibashi’s exhibition features six acrylic paintings that draw on fanfiction-based hentai to examine distortions in networked culture. Referencing postwar Japanese subcultures and Euro-American appropriation, the works make visible the commercial and communal structures behind manga and soft-core imagery, depicting the Asian female body through these mediated systems.
