John Chiara: Bay Panel

SF Camerawork San Francisco · SoMa
Exhibition on view: Jun 26, 2026 - Jul 19, 2026

John Chiara: Bay Panel presents a new solo exhibition centered on the acclaimed Bay Area photographer’s monumental six-part work of the same name. Spanning more than 24 feet, the panoramic photograph returns to public view for the first time since its 2020 debut, offering an expansive meditation on the San Francisco Bay through Chiara’s distinctive large-format camera practice.

Referencing the sweeping landscapes of nineteenth-century photographers while capturing contemporary landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, the city’s skyline, and passing cargo ships, Bay Panel reflects on the region’s evolving history and atmosphere. Additional photographs further highlight Chiara’s ongoing exploration of Northern California’s landscapes and photographic traditions.
