Diane Arbus: Sanctum Sanctorum at Fraenkel Gallery presents forty-five photographs made in private places across New York, New Jersey, California, and London between 1961 and 1971, following an exhibition at David Zwirner, London. Through her singular combination of intelligence, charisma, and courage, Arbus was frequently invited into homes and private realms seldom seen by strangers. Her subjects embrace a vast spectrum of humanity: debutantes, nudists, celebrities, transvestites, and circus performers, each image revealing an unspoken exchange in which confidences emerge freely and without judgment.
