Mad River presents new photographs by Katy Grannan, created in Northern California’s Humboldt County, where the artist now lives and works. The portraits reflect the area’s spirit of privacy and independence, capturing individuals in ways shaped by their environment. Grannan often develops relationships with her subjects, resulting in images that blur the line between documentary and fiction. A public reception with the artist will be held on September 13, alongside a show by Peter Hujar.
