From the Ashes is Matthew Brandt’s first solo exhibition at Haines Gallery. The exhibition brings together five related photographic series, San Francisco Dust, January Skies, Florida Strangler, Eagles, and Wai‘anae. Across these works, Brandt uses materially driven processes that incorporate elements from the photographed subjects, examining how the physical and chemical conditions of photography correspond to social, environmental, and political contexts.
