Ali Cherri: Last Watch Before Dawn

Almine Rech, Tribeca New York · Tribeca / SoHo
Exhibition on view: Jan 16, 2026 - Feb 28, 2026

Last Watch before Dawn is Ali Cherri’s first solo exhibition at Almine Rech New York. The exhibition brings together watercolor works alongside sculptural and moving-image practices that address histories of violence, occupation, and material witness. Intimate depictions of animals, objects, and landscapes connect to Cherri’s film work, where recurring motifs operate as carriers of memory, loss, and geopolitical tension.

Ali Cherri

Ali Cherri, born in Beirut in 1976, lives and works in Paris. Shaped by postwar Lebanon, his practice spans film, sculpture, drawing, performance, and installation, examining how political violence inscribes itself onto bodies, landscapes, and cultural narratives. Through archaeology, moving images, and hybrid forms, he interrogates history, colonialism, and impermanence. Cherri received the Silver Lion Award at the 59th Venice Biennale.
