Marcus Jahmal’s *Booty* explores the contradictions of pirate mythology, from romanticized symbols of freedom and rebellion to histories of colonialism, violence, and plunder. Drawing on Hollywood pirate imagery and contemporary fashion, Jahmal’s paintings depict distorted figures acting out familiar scenes, while installations of Swarovski crystals examine wealth, desire, ownership, and possession.
