Self-Made: A Century of Inventing Artists examines how formally untrained artists have represented themselves as artists from the early twentieth century to the present. Through self-portraits, alter egos, and signature works, the exhibition critically reconsiders the category of the “self-taught artist,” addressing agency, ambition, and artistic identity across American and international contexts.
