The CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, founded in 1998 by Lawrence Rinder, is California College of the Arts' nonprofit exhibition space and research institute. Known for prescient, experimental programming, it mounted early US institutional shows for artists and hosts a yearlong research season devoted to a single artist. Past shows have featured Kara Walker, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Diamond Stingily. It now operates from CCA's expanded campus complex at 360 Kansas Street in the Potrero Hill area. Free to visit.
