Creative Growth Art Center

Exhibition on view: Jul 17, 2026 - Aug 29, 2026

Deaf Stars Shine

One of the world's oldest and largest nonprofit art centers serving artists with developmental disabilities, founded in 1974 by Florence Ludins-Katz and Elias Katz. Operating from a converted auto-repair building at 355 24th Street in downtown Oakland, it provides studio space, materials, and gallery representation to over 140 artists. Alumni include fiber sculptor Judith Scott, Dan Miller, and William Scott, whose work has entered major museum collections; SFMOMA launched a landmark partnership and acquisition of Creative Growth work in 2024.
