Melrose Hill: The New Arrivals

A group exhibition organized by Helen Molesworth at the gallery's 606 N Western Avenue space, considering how the terroir of Los Angeles — its light, geography, and ecosystems — shapes work being made there today. Riffing on the Light and Space movement of the 1960s and 70s, it gathers artists including Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Noah Davis, Lauren Halsey, Catherine Opie, Lari Pittman, Jason Rhoades, and Cauleen Smith across painting, sculpture, photography, and installation.

Château Shatto and the Lucid Art Foundation present the first major exhibition of Dynaton in nearly thirty-five years. Taking its name from the Aristotelian "the possible," Dynaton emerged in 1951 in San Francisco as a break from Surrealism, treating California as a laboratory where Indigenous cosmologies, quantum physics, and Jungian psychology could coexist on the same canvas. The works by Gordon Onslow Ford, Wolfgang Paalen, Lee Mullican feel newly prescient today, expanded by the exhibition’s addition of works by Luchita Hurtado, Jeanne Reynal, Alice Rahon, and Harry Partch.

Circle House is a new site-specific installation by Oscar Tuazon that transforms the Zen concept of the ensō, the hand-painted circle symbolizing presence and enlightenment, into an inhabitable architectural space. Blurring the boundaries between sculpture, architecture, and ritual, the work invites visitors to gather within a circular structure activated through traditional Japanese tea ceremonies. Inspired by the quiet simplicity of the Japanese tea house, the installation offers a contemplative environment where reflection, community, and shared experience become part of the artwork itself.

Muna Island at Chris Sharp Gallery takes its title from the Indonesian site of the world’s oldest known cave paintings, using it as a point of departure to examine painting’s enduring history. Bringing together contemporary artists, the exhibition reflects on painting as a timeless human impulse, exploring how new work contributes to a visual conversation that began nearly 70,000 years ago.

Alone, alone, all, all alone features work by Ramsey Alderson, Ella Fleck, Ant Łakomsk, and Erin Calla Watson. The exhibition looks at how loneliness has quietly become the norm — not despite our hyper-connected world, but because of it. We're more reachable than ever, yet real closeness feels further away, filtered through screens and algorithms that promise intimacy but rarely deliver it.

Ohan Breiding's queer still life photographs in dialogue with fragments of still life paintings from the Met's collection. Begun in 2015 as a return to the dinner table and the compositional language of Juan Sánchez Cotán, the series swaps the genre's familiar objects for their deviant others — butter becomes Crisco, basketballs are cut open and inverted — with 2026 works pushing into a more sculptural register, several commissioned by Triple Canopy.
